Festival Layang-layang Sedunia Pasir Gudang 2011




































" Located at the Pasir Gudang Recreational Park, Bukit Layang-Layang is the official site for the annual Pasir Gudang World Kite Festival (Festival Layang-Layang Sedunia), attracting hundreds and thousands of visitors and kiting enthusiasts from all over the world."

The World Kites Festival (Festival Layang-Layang Sedunia), being one of the official events in the Tourism Johor calendar, is being held from now until 20 February 2011 in Bukit Layang-Layang, Taman Bandar, Pasir Gudang, Johor. This year's theme - Colouring the Sky (Mewarnai Langit) - highlights kites and Wau Bulan as a recreational and holiday activity, which through the variety of colours and shapes 'colour' the skies.

With local and international traditional Wau Bulan and kite enthusiasts joining in the fun under the sky and sun, the event is expected to attract thousands of visitors and exhibitors.

Expected to be featured in the Malaysia Book of Records is the flying of 3000 kites bearing the KFC logo, as the main sponsor of the World Kites Festival, with the involvement of more than 3000 school children from around Pasir Gudang.

The DYMM Tunku Mahkota Johor would see to the fly off after the Official Ceremony on Saturday 19 February.

Around 707 local and 221 international participants from 30 countries have confirmed participation, with Indonesia having the highest amount with 51, followed by China with 31.
Some of the highlights in the World Kites Festival are:
1. Kites Show from Austria
2. Stunt kite rhythmic show - Double Line
3. Stunt kite Revolution - Quad Line
4. Buggy and Lolly Pop Drop shows
5. Kites and Wau-making workshops conducted by local and international participants
6. Kites exhibitions by Austria, government agencies and private sectors
7. Drawing and colouring contests for children
8. Cultural performances
9. Suara Emas Pasir Gudang - singing competition
10. Shows by local artists- the award-winning Ana Rafali, Aris Ariwatan, Ayai Illusi, Jalil Hamid, Sofaz, Sarah Raisuddin, Farah Asyikin, Nash and many more.
11. A Maulidur Rasul Islamic Forum by acclaimed scholars Dr Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, Dato' Hasan Mahmud Al-Hafiz and Dato' Kamarudin Zakaria.

The closing ceremony of the 16th World Kite Festival would be completed by YB Encik Hoo Seong Chang, Johor Tourism, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman at Stadium Perbandaran Johor Bharu on Sunday 20 February.
